I. 9/18 Back to School Potluck: Come and socialize with our preschool, elementary school, and Infant and Toddler Development Center to kick off the year with flair and fun! We will have a potluck for both campuses at Tualatin Community Park at 8515 SW Tualatin Road from 11am-1pm. The park boasts a great playground, a field for the children to play soccer, and a covered picnic area. We will set up our potluck in the covered area.

The following is the breakdown for potluck items for families to bring:
A-M Main Dish
N-Z Side Dish
*Don’t forget that we are a nut-free school! Staff will make desserts and lemonade/punch will be provided as well.
Be sure to sign up on your teacher’s sign-up sheet! Save the date and join the CHA extended family fun!

II. Donations desperately needed by Tuesday 9/14: ,,Transformar las lágrimas en sonrisas.” Turning tears into smiles is the slogan of E.B.S. El Buen Samaritano/ “The Good Samaritan” http://www.ebs-guatemala.net/. As some of you may know, I (Susan Stober) will be going on a sabbatical starting September 10th. The Children’s Hour Academy is graciously supporting me and my family on a volunteer mission to Guatemala. We will be volunteering at a children’s center, El Buen Samaritano, beginning September 23rd for three months. It is a Guatemalan association which supports people in need with donations received. They help over 150 children and teenagers by providing assistance with health, education, balanced diets, and personal attention. E.B.S. is a group that provides all these services with an atmosphere of love, peace, and hope for a better life with the help of God.
Just imagine, if every CHA family simply donated one item new, or gently used, we would be able to provide all the children at EBS with some tools needed for their education! It is the simple items that can make an education possible and change a life forever! This is my personal goal. My husband and I have four extra pieces of luggage to transport all donations. If you would prefer a monetary donation, I would be happy to purchase items in Guatemala City as well (which might be easier and cheaper). If you would like to donate, please see attached list of items of need. I will be collecting items this Monday and Tuesday morning at both campuses. Thank you all for your amazing support!

III. Scholastic Book Orders due 9/17: Don’t forget to look in your mailboxes for our Scholastic Book Orders! Orders are due NEXT Friday 9/17. What a great opportunity to build a children’s library at a great price while supporting the school!

IV. Grandparent’s Day: It was wonderful to see all the grandparents join their grandchildren at our celebrations this week! What loving families! Have a very happy Grandparent’s Day from all of us here at The Children’s Hour Academy!

V. Free Dress Fridays: Although our Meridian Campus uniform policy began the first day of school, (white, burgundy, hunter green, navy, and red polo-type t-shirt and navy blue pants, shorts, dress, or skirt), children may choose their own outfits on Fridays.

VI. Health Policy: In order to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all our children, please only return children to school if they have been fever and vomiting free for 24 hours. In addition, if they have colored discharge or other possibly contagious symptoms, please consider keeping them at home. Thank you for your help in keeping our children safe!

VII. Back to School Night 9/29: Please see the attached CHA Academic Year Calendar with important events and dates to remember including our CHA Back To School Night on 9/29. Please visit your child’s classroom and chat with their teacher between 5:30-6:30pm. Children are welcome!
