Kids are Like Snowflakes

These poems were written by Ms. Mariola's Preparatory Kindergarten class:

Poetry

“Kids are like snowflakes-no two are the same!” written by:

Jonathan Hu
Kids are like snowflakes - no two are the same!
Each of us is different, starting with our names.
My hair is black, as you can see.
My eyes are brown as they can be.
Doing sports and playing I like a lot.
But getting a fever and riding on a plane are not so hot!
All things make me, me.
I sure am special!
Don’t you agree?

Hailey Stohler

CHAF Donation Letter

We are writing on behalf of the Children’s Hour Academy Foundation (CHAF). The Foundation assists the Children’s Hour Academy (CHA), a small, non-denominational elementary school and infant and toddler development center located in Lake Oswego. CHA provides positive learning and growth for up to 200 children ranging from infants through elementary grades. Our mission is to serve children with unparalleled educational and developmental opportunities by augmenting the learning environment in response to each child’s distinct learning style.

The purpose of The Children’s Hour Academy Foundation is three-fold with all three components providing the means to address the needs of children. Parents of the students enrolled in the Children’s Hour Academy are eligible to apply to the foundation for tuition assistance. Parents also may request supplemental funding for professional services and student aids to meet a child’s need for additional support and therapies. The CHAF will provide support to the Academy for acquisition of equipment, furniture, and other capital expenses. Programs delivered to students beyond traditional curriculum whether it is supplemental or adaptive, are eligible for support from the CHAF, serving all students regardless of need or ability.

On May 14, 2011, the CHAF will host an auction at the CHA Meridian Campus to raise funds for these scholarships and the purchase of educational resources. As parents, we are committed to support the effort and to seek the support of CHA parents, friends, and businesses to meet our goal. We would appreciate your financial sponsorship and partnership. We are asking for donations of services, products, sponsorship of tables ($500 each), or sponsorship of packages. In return for your generosity, the CHAF has a tiered-level of appreciation through advertising to our community. Our highest contributor, the Platinum Donor, will have an active link from the CHA website for one year, company logos prominently displayed on a constant slideshow, two e-mail blasts to CHA community for special events or offers, and advanced internet advertising on Facebook, Twitter, CHA Connection Blog, and newsletters. The foundation will print the names of all business donors on our marketing materials including the auction display table, event posters, and auction catalogue. For more information on donation levels, please see below.

For further information about the auction and/or to confirm your donation please contact Jennifer Gerritz at 503-803-3703 or jgerritz@gmail.com.

The foundation serves children, families, and staff. Please support our foundation and cause so that the school can continue to support the community and maintain its mission for children. We are excited to have your participation in this year’s auction. We thank you in advance for your thoughtful support in assisting local children and families.

Warmest Regards,

Jennifer Gerritz, President
The Children’s Hour Academy Foundation

Martin Luther King Jr. Days

Yesterday and today in the 1st and 2nd grade classroom we have focused on the life, works, words, and character of Martin Luther King Jr. Yesterday we read two books (children's books) about his life. We also cut out words or phrases from magazines that described him and glued them to construction paper. Today as a review, we got with a partner and each group listed twenty words about Martin Luther King Jr. The class came up with great words like leader, peace, freedom, and love. All of us wrote a simple poem about what we think PEACE is like. Each student thought of what peace is like to them, and we came up with some fantastic poems. I have written them here for you to read.

Peace
By: Bella Mann

Peace is like a nice heart.
Peace looks like heaven.
It sounds like birds, and it is beautiful.
Peace is always sweet.

Peace
By: Christiaan Bedford

Peace is like a bit of heaven.
Peace looks like birds singing.
It sounds like a river, and it can be strong.
But peace is always cool.

Peace
By: Brock Fiorello

Peace is like a rose.
Peace looks like love.
It sounds like snow, and it can be pretty.
Peace is always great.

Peace
By: Dane Everley

Peace is like a good day.
Peace looks like love.
It sounds good, and it can be lovely.
Peace is always hopeful.

We hope you have a very Peaceful day!!!

~ Ms. Sally Jo's Class

I. Please Bring Jackets-
Please make sure that your child has a warm winter jacket at school on a daily basis. The staff at both campuses would like to be able to take children outside regularly for fresh air. In order to do so, they need to be dressed appropriately. A sweatshirt is simply not sufficient. If they could keep mittens and a hat at school as well, that would be very helpful. Thank you!

II. New Staff Member-
The Meridian and Jean Road campuses would like to welcome Alexis Fiorello on board as an aide assisting at both locations. We are so glad to have you! Welcome to our community!
