I. This Week:
9/7 First Day of School for Academic Year
*Meridian Parents--Please remember that curriculum begins at 8:30am for Kindergarten-sixth grade and at 9am for Transitional Kindergarten and Preparatory Kindergarten classes. Help us start the year off right for the children by being punctual in drop-off times. Thank you for your support!
II. Uniforms: Our Meridian Campus uniform policy begins the first day of school, Tuesday, September 7th. Students are asked to dress in a white, burgundy, hunter green, navy, and red polo-type t-shirt and blue pants, shorts, dress, or skirt. Please purchase only the aforementioned colors for the polo tops. Sears, Old Navy and Kmart are excellent sources for our uniform. Please e-mail Susan at susan@childrens-hour.com if you have any questions.
III. 9/8, 9/9, & 9/10 Grandparents’ Social Invitations : We would like to invite all our wonderful families’ grandparents to come to a CHA Grandparents’ Social! So our grandparents can visit with all their grandchildren, we have scheduled the event on different days for easier planning.
• Our Kindergarten through Sixth Grades’ celebrations (classes with Ms. Sally Ann, Ms. Sally Jo and Ms. Hayley) will be on Wednesday, September 8 at 3:30 pm in the Meridian Campus Cafeteria.
• Transitional Kindergarten through Preparatory Kindergarten’s parties (classes with Mr. Alex, Ms. Erin, and Ms. Mariola) are on Thursday, September 9 at 3:30 pm in the Meridian Campus Cafeteria.
• Our Grandparents’ Social at CHA Jean Road Campus will be on Friday, September 10 at 3:30 pm in the individual classrooms.
IV. Welcome New Families: We have many new children and families joining The Children’s Hour Academy! Please welcome Eli Whitlow who joins the infant room along with Jackson Wildish and Jackson Pierce! In addition, Isaac Pierce, Sienna Larson, and Kayleanna Contrino will be part of the Transitional Kindergarten class! Braden Larsen will learn this year in Mr. Alex’s Transitional Kindergarten class! Finally, Ethan Thomas is a new pre-schooler along with Liliana and Nicholas Doran in Stephanie’s group. We give a warm welcome to our new students and their families!
V. Welcome New Staff Member Erin Murphy to Meridian Campus: We would like to announce the newest fabulous addition to our teaching staff, Erin Murphy! Erin will be working with our adorable 4 and 5 year olds in the Transitional Kindergarten class. Erin graduated in June with her Masters Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. While working on her degree, she taught toddlers and preschool children for two years. Teaching is her passion and she is excited for this upcoming school year! Let’s all give Erin a warm greeting from our CHA Community!
VI. 9/18 Back to School Potluck: Come and socialize with our entire school to kick off the year with flair and fun! We will have a potluck for both campuses at Tualatin Park from 11am-1pm. The park boasts a great playground and a field for the children to play soccer (a popular pastime with this group!). Save the date and join the CHA community!
VII. Helping those in Need: ,,Transformar las lágrimas en sonrisas.” Turning tears into smiles is the slogan of E.B.S. El Buen Samaritano/ “The Good Samaritan” http://www.ebs-guatemala.net/. As some of you may know, I (Susan Stober) will be going on a sabbatical starting September 10th. The Children’s Hour Academy is graciously supporting me and my family on a volunteer mission to Guatemala. We will be volunteering at a children’s center, El Buen Samaritano, beginning September 23rd for three months. It is a Guatemalan association which supports people in need with donations received. They help over 150 children and teenagers by providing assistance with health, education, balanced diets, and personal attention. E.B.S. is a group that provides all these services with an atmosphere of love, peace, and hope for a better life with the help of God. If you would like to donate, please see attached list of items of need.
Just imagine, if every CHA family simply donated one new, or gently used, backpack, we would be able to provide all the children at EBS with a backpack for school! It is the simple items that can make an education possible and change a life forever! This is my personal goal. My husband and I have four extra pieces of luggage to transport all donations. If you would prefer a monetary donation, I would be happy to purchase items in Guatemala City as well (which might be easier and cheaper). I will be collecting items the first week of school at both campuses. Thank you all for your amazing support!
